Void of Desire--poem by Shawn Olsonpoem, poetryA poem by Columbus Messenger writer Shawn Olson.
An open stare
filling the place
in the void of desire
where you all give all
to a useless song.
You sweat and cheer
twisting and shouting
filling your soul with beer
as you swim in throbbing noise
watching the others
their hearts hidden under exposed flesh
wanting to fall away with one
wanting to just disappear.
You walk in a stranger
in search of intoxicated danger
and all you ever find
is that each sip
each laughing draft
steals one more piece of you
steals a relic of your mind.
Then you go home
to your quiet place
warm and undistracted
and utterly alone.
